The evidence file

The email with the signed document has a second attachment: the evidence file, ending in -evidence.json. Here you check that PlainSign's evidence log holds every step it records, unchanged, and whether a PDF is the signed document.

The PDF does not leave your computer: your browser computes its fingerprint and sends only that.

This PlainSign's key. The same key is on the signing page of every document it signs. Without PlainSign, the evidence file can be checked with plainsign verify-evidence.

Check a signature mark

Every signature on a signing page is a mark: a rosette inside a ring of dots. The ring holds the facts of the signature, signed by PlainSign, so it can be checked from a print. Photograph one mark from straight above, so that it fills most of the picture, or scan the page.

Your browser makes the picture smaller and removes its location and other details before sending it. PlainSign reads it and keeps nothing.

Check a checkpoint

Every email from PlainSign ends with a checkpoint, and so does the signing page: the evidence log's state at that moment, signed by PlainSign. Paste one here, from the log's name to PlainSign's signature, to check that the log today still contains it unchanged: that since then, steps were only added.
